EDO Restaurants

I had the pleasure of experiencing EDO Restaurant with their Groupon menu. It was least to say, pretty unexpected. I came into the restaurant without any expectations to avoid disappointment. The reviews on Yelp and Google was not very high at all, I on the other hand felt differently. Parking is a hassle though, so be warned that you will not be able to find parking on a busy Friday or Saturday night.

There was a complimentary noodle that I was not able to grab a picture of. It tasted like the Vietnamese noodles with the sour sauce. Not very impressed, but was impressed with the lovely waitress. Next is a salmon sashimi with spicy mayo on top of what seemed like a pickled lemon. I, not a fan of sour foods or lemon, didn't find it to be all that amazing. It was quite different though. It was pretty tasty after it was dipped in soy sauce though.

Next up is the lobster bisque. It is a bit dark in colour but probably was one of my favourite dishes that was presented to us. There is some egg at the bottom of the soup that was probably steamed before the soup was poured on top of it. It was very flavourful but not too strong where the taste was overwhelming everything else. The egg mixture added to the texture of the soup and was quite lovely.

From left to right red tuna, scallop, salmon, kyushu yellowtail, and squid. Some of the sushi were not quite what I expected. The sushi at Bent-O was actually much better tasting. Everything required a bit of soy sauce and tasted quite plain on its own. My favourite, was the scallop. The flavour was blended nicely and didn't have an overwhelming fishy smell. Next favourite would have to be the salmon. I'm a salmon lover so that one naturally would be one of my favourites. The rest were nothing spectacular, not really even worth talking about really.

We went to EDO to really try the Kobe wanting to know what the hype is about. It really only tasted like very good steak. Either that, or it was very mediocre Kobe beef. It was very soft and the flavours infused went very well with the vegetables. The peppers, however, were a little bit random with the strong flavours. The rice on both dishes was infused mushroom and other grains.

The Black Cod was actually very delicious...on the first bite. The flavours were so strong that it was unexpected for a fish dish. Usually they are very subtle but this one, it became very salty after a couple more bites. The wasabi mayo that goes with the fish was very intriguing. It didn't really add to the taste but didn't really take away from it either. The asparagus for the fish was a bit chewy. Not too sure if they just had asparagus for too long or it was overcooked.

This is actually one of the best affogato I have ever had. Surprisingly it held the matcha coffee very well because of the cold plate. Interestingly enough it didn't melt the vanilla icecream. The fruits of course, is just an addition to make it more appealing. I did think the touch of green tea Pocky was very cute.

Last but not least, the dark chocolate fondue. I love fondue, normally, but never have been a fan of dark chocolate. I did like the banana due to the sweetness, but am unsure of everything else. The food took very long to come in between courses. Although most of it did not look like much food, it actually was very filling. Overall I loved the experience there, from the ambiance to the service to the food. It was quite pricey since it was $99 + tips and 18% gratuity. I would have to rate this at 3.5/5, taking points off for the sushi portion and the salty fish. Not sure if I would come back again with a friend or a date, but I would definitely suggest it for a group of people for a birthday party. It is spacious, quite and the food takes a while to come which is perfect for parties wanting to talk for a long time.
